Equipment Operators

As an equipment operator, you will be responsible for the safe and efficient operation of equipment in a group environment.  Individuals must be dependable and willing to travel to various locations across Nova Scotia to work.

Key Duties Include:

  • Safe operation of equipment
  • Efficient use of time to perform various tasks
  • Pre-operation inspection
  • Documentation of inspections
  • Daily basic maintenance including lubrication

Qualifications:

  • 2 years minimum experience
  • Possess a valid WHMIS 2015  certificate

Truck Drivers

As a truck driver, you will be responsible for the safe and efficient operation of highway trucks.

Key Duties Include:

  • Completion of a daily logbook
  • Complete and document a daily pre-trip inspection
  • Operate within the laws and legislation of Nova Scotia

Qualifications:

  • Minimum 2 years driving experience
  • Clean drivers abstract
  • First Aid training
  • Possess a valid WHMIS 2015 certificate
  • Valid Class 1 or Class 3 (air brake endorsement) drivers license

Bridge Superintendent

The Bridge Superintendent will oversee the day to day operations on a project site and perform supervisory duties, including directing a crew of personnel and assigned equipment in a designated area of the project. The Bridge Superintendent will be responsible for the safety and supervision of all field personnel on an assigned project site.

Key Duties

  • Strong knowledge of bridge work
  • Proficiency in Safe climbing techniques, fall protection and fall restraint.
  • Strong written and verbal communications
  • Build and remove job-specific wood and or steel forms and assemble commercially-available form systems
  • Inspect bridge formwork
  • Pile Driving
  • Supervise steel tiers as required
  • Pour, grade and finish concrete
  • Load and unload materials
  • Perform general housekeeping and clean-up of the job site
  • Maintain equipment and tools
  • Enter confined spaces, as required
  • Rigging
  • Provide flagging and direction to Crane Operators

 

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

  • Graduation from a standard high school or vocational school
  • Experience as a carpenter
  • A minimum of five (5) years supervisory experience in a construction environment or any equivalent combination of training and experience

Bridge Carpenters

The role of bridge carpenter can be either seasonal or permanent full time.  Successful candidates will have 2 years experience and must be dependable and willing to travel to various locations throughout Nova Scotia. 

Key Duties Include:

  • Loading and unloading of construction materials.
  • Help maintain a safe working environment as well as maintaining a clean work space.
  • Assist in the erection and dismantling of scaffolding.
  • Assembling and removing  temporary form work and false work including both timber and EFCO forms.
  • Taking measurements and calculating the appropriate size and quantity of various materials.
  • Safely use electric power tools such as skill saws, drills, grinders, etc.
  • Following instructions from site supervisors.
  • Follow all on site safety procedures.
  • Work in collaboration with co-workers and supervisors.

Qualifications:

  • Trade certification or degree in carpentry or equivalent experience
  • Valid driver’s license is considered an asset.
  • Must be able to do physical labour and other strenuous activities.
  • Must be punctual, reliable, and have strong work ethics.
  • Must be comfortable working at heights.
  • Must have a valid WHMIS2015 certificate.
  • Must be able to lift 50 lbs. on a consistent basis.

 

Grade Foreman

The grade foreman will oversee the daily grading operations and provide guidance to equipment operators.  Individuals must be dependable and willing to travel to various locations throughout Nova Scotia to work.

Key Duties Include:

  • Provide guidance and direction to heavy equipment operators.
  • Communicate with site superintendents and surveyors.
  • Ensure a high quality of workmanship and prioritize various tasks.
  • Ability to analyze situations and identify problems and come up with effective solutions.
  • Ensure that all personnel are working safely and that all work is done in compliance with government safety regulations.
  • Ensure that all project  environmental requirements are established and maintained.

Qualifications:

  • 2 years experience in a supervisory role would be considered an asset.
  • Must have experience working with grades.
  • Excellent detail towards safety.
  • Effective leadership skills.
  • Ability to work in a team setting.
  • Strong problem solving skills.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Must have a valid driver’s license.
  • Must have a valid WHMIS2015 certificate.
